Pierre Vandel was born in 1939 in Roubaix, France. He graduated in 1957 with a focus on industrial assembly and design. After graduation Vandel worked on experimental projects including a vertical aquarium and hi-fi unit.
After selling 5,000 tables in 1969 Vandel started a collaboration with Pierre Cardin. The Hollywood glamour of his lacquered metal and glass pieces of furniture became very sought after and still remain his most collectable items of furniture.
The piece on offer was made at the height of Vandels design career. The maroon coloured lacquer is accented by gold trim and is signed.
The unit has some signs of of wear, commensurate with the age of piece. 3 pieces of shelf glass have been replaced.
