The Campus range of furniture was designed in 1968 by John Morton for Lupton Morton. The range was specifically designed for the number of new universities springing up all over the UK. The company wanted to be able to offer a comprehensive range of flat-packed furniture for public areas, offices and student accommodations. The universities were able to select from a catalogue, choosing different wood finishes and fabric choices. They were very successful, so successful that by 1969 they had furnished nearly all the available new campuses. They then chose an innovative (at the time) way to sell their furniture, through the Sunday Times supplement where you could order and pay by credit card. In the early 1970s they sold their designs to Habitat where they continued to be popular until the mid 70s.
This sofa probably dates from the early 1970s and would therefore have been retailed through Habitat, though its difficult to say one way or another as the fabrics and design didn't change from the originals in 1968.
We have managed to keep the original blue wool fabric but have replaced all the original foam with modern fire retardant foam.
The sofa/daybed has some signs of wear on the frame and there is a very small amount of fading on one of the back cushions but it is sturdy and has no structural issues.
The scatter cushions are included if the buyer wishes. Each is made with vintage fabrics to compliment the sofa.
Dimensions are:
OVERALL - 199cms long x 83cms deep x 60cms high (to back of sofa cushions)
