1950s Formica and Metal Coffee Table
1950s Formica and Metal Coffee Table
What a wonderful piece of vintage furniture! Made in the 1950s with gold coloured metal legs and a plywood top covered in a gorgeous monochrome formica designed by Jacqueline Groag and called 'City Scape'.
Jacqueline Groag (1903-1986) was a hugely influential post-war designer. Originally Czech, Groag studied in Vienna and designed for the Wiener Werkstätte before moving to Paris in 1929, where she worked on dress fabrics for fashion houses such as Chanel. She moved to London in1939. In addition to working with some of the foremost textile manufacturers and retailers of the era in Britain and America, Groag created a large number of textile designs for the ‘Britain Can Make It’ exhibition at The Victoria & Albert Museum in 1946. Her designs were used for haute couture, housewares as well as by furniture manufacturers by Formica.
This piece would fit comfortably in any vintage or contemporary home.
The coffee table is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or scratches or structural issues.
